The Simple Things

Hard to Believe...

6 years ago today, I became a mother. So hard to believe. Now that snuggalicious little baby has grown into this: 
 
{em's going through the awkward "I have no teeth stage!"...it's so darling!}

Emilie is so excited about this birthday. She's been talking about it non-stop for months. (i wonder where she gets her love of birthdays). This year we bit the bullet and are throwing her a huge birthday party at the local Bounce House. I'm thrilled that I don't have to clean the house. Den Farlow is not thrilled by the price tag. This is all going down tomorrow, so I'm sure I'll have more to say about it then. 

Anyway, back to Emmie. 
At 6 Emilie is:
*Strong Willed
*Inquisitive
*A good girl (she's received a star for good behavior every day this school year!)
*A great older sister
*Loves reading and dancing in the kitchen
*Wants to be a singer or a vetrinarian when she grows up.
*Wants a puppy for her birthday. (again)
*Is SO LOVED by us!

I love this girl!

Terrifying...

So Emilie had a night terror last night...and it was terrifying. Ben was at basketball and I was enjoying Grey's Anatomy, when all of the sudden she let out a blood curdling scream. I bolted from the couch and went in her room to find her eyes open, screaming uncontrollably. I tried to get her to snap out of it, but she became aggressive...trying to kick and hit at something that I just couldn't see. After a sharp kick to my belly, I placed her on the floor and watched her thrash around. Not knowing what to do, I tried everything...I turned on the lights, talked to her, clapped my hands...heck, I even splashed water on her face. Nothing worked.
Finally, I left the room with her still screaming and thrashing on the floor. About 4 minutes later, it got quiet. She had wet her pants (never happens any more) and that had woken her up. She was so confused and couldn't figure out why she was on the floor with wet pants. After we changed her jammies and washed her off, she went back to sleep and slept soundly through the night.
I was baffled. What to do? How do you stop them? What causes them? I've since done tons of internet research, but wondered if anyone else has dealt with these? How long do they last? Any advice on what to do?
She may not remember it, but it terrified me.
