I love Iowa...there, I said it. I miss New York, I really do. But there is so much about Iowa that I just LOVE. First, my house.
I love having a place of my own. I love that there is ample room for all of us and more space for guests. I love having more than one bathroom (a first in our marriage) and a dishwasher. It's divine.
Next, a big backyard.
Some would believe that this falls under number one, but it doesn't. It deserves it's own bullet. Having a backyard is wonderful...especially with active children. Emilie spends most of the day out there...having adventures, playing on the swingset, chasing fairies and loving every second of it. Nothing makes me as happy as hearing her shrieks of joy. I'm also excited to plant some flowers. I haven't got there yet, but look forward to planting a garden.
Next, the shopping.
I love shopping in Iowa because I have everything I need within a 5 minute drive. And you don't have to pay for parking. And the stores are clean with friendly employees. There is a Super Target with a Super Walmart across the street. We have craft stores, scrapbook stores, TJ Maxx, and Pier One within walking distance from each other. I love it.
The fast food options.
I think I posted about this before. Sonic, Culvers, Wendys, Pancheros, Quiznos...the possibilities are endless. I love it...but am saying good-bye until I'm 20 pounds lighter. Serious.
The different perspective. In New York everything was about money...careers, houses, cars, etc. It was all about bigger and better, whether conscious or not. Out here it's about one thing...Family. Everything is about family and I love it. There is always some sort of family activity each weekend, put on by the community. This weekend there is a Fishing Derby (don't worry, we'll post pictures) for the kids that is sure to entertain. I love it.
The beauty.
When most people think of beautiful places, Iowa is probably not at the top of the list. I, however, think it's beautiful. In the spring, I find the greenness of the crops and trees to be breathtaking. Everything looks so lush. In the fall, when the crops have turned a golden color and the leaves are vibrant, it's is so beautiful. I love living in a rural area. There is so much beauty to be found.
Granted, it's different than New York. We miss the people in New York all the time. But, every change takes a while to become adjusted. Right now I'm just happy to be where I am.
